Reserva Biosfera La Palma

El Llano de Las Cuevas

The complete itinerary shows one of the most singular landscapes on the island, exceptionally combining natural and cultural elements. The road itinerary goes through a wooded area mainly composed by a mixed pine forest. The itinerary shows a remarkable observation point called Los Llanos del Jable viewpoint, where vegetation clears up and allows a wide panoramic view towards Aridane Valley. On its part, the itinerary on foot, goes through the internal part of the agricultural area known as El Llano de Las Cuevas and its main difference is that it offers several medium and short plains which allow the enjoyment of the multiple landscape details, such as pyramids and stone walls or animals, typical pictures of this cultural landscape.

Access

The recommended itinerary starts in the recreational area known as El Refugio del Pilar, accessed through LP- 301 road, and ends at the Visitors Center of La Caldera de Taburiente. This a mixed itinerary, composed by two tracks to be made differently. We suggest making the first one by vehicle. It starts its itinerary in El Refugio del Pilar and ends in the LP-3 general road, when passing the tunnel box, at the height of kilometer 18. The second track starts in this point and, as this is an internal road, it should be made on foot. It ends at the Visitors Center of La Caldera de Taburiente.
